Men's Shelter
The Open Door Mission operates the only men's homeless shelter in Tioga County. The Mission provides eight beds, food, clothing, prescription help, addiction recovery support, transportation to medical facilities, job consultations, transportation to job interviews, and advocacy to other agencies for residents. We often help our residents with obtaining veterans benefits. The Mission provides job training to our residents to enable them to enter into the workforce. We also help men through our Outreach Program /outreach.html with home furnishings, food and financial advice when they are ready to move on to the next step in their lives. Everyday we eat lunch together, we believe strongly in a family environment for our residents.
Transitional Housing
Transitional housing helps residents move on from the homeless shelter but still hold on to a strong supportive environment. The men in transitional housing have more privacy than in the shelter but they all live in a house together and share common rooms. The men pay low cost rent to provide the men an opportunity to develop budgeting skills, and still have access to free home furnishings, food, and family style support.
