Our Services
Our Food Pantry
The Mission operates the largest food pantry in Tioga County and is the umbrella organization for eleven other pantries in our county. These pantries include the Apalachin Food Pantry, Berkshire Helping Hands Pantry, Project Neighbor in Newark Valley, Lounsberry Food Pantry, Spencer Community Cupboard, Bread of Life in Candor, Tioga County Rural Ministry, the Valley Pantry in Waverly and Waverly CHOW for Children. Since Richford has no established pantry the Mission helps with a monthly food give away.
The Mission also helps a number of local church soup kitchens such as Kindness Counts, the ACT Kitchen, the Owego Presbyterian Church, and the Waverly Methodist Church. We truly believe that the best way we can serve our community is by not only serving our clients but also by acting as a community partner with other pantries and organizations.
How It Works!
Our clients are welcome to come every 30 days for a visit through the pantry, and anyone is welcome to get free bread every day. For clients, such as seniors, that are unable to leave their homes, we make food deliveries.

Financial Assistance
The Outreach department helps people in the community in a number of different ways. Due to the fact that we have our thrift store we have a great resource to help supply fire and flood victims with furniture, beds, household items and clothing after a disaster. In addition to victims of disasters we help many families with clothing and furniture. We strongly believe in assisting the working poor, we help individuals with professional clothing for work or an interview, or specialty clothing such as steel toed shoes. Some of the clients that we serve also receive assistance with rent and utility costs. Also depending on the financial budget and situation, the Mission has financially assisted with gas money, car repairs, car insurance, prescription costs, burial costs, and driver's licenses.

Public Events
The Mission's Outreach program offers several community programs through out the year. During Thanksgiving and Christmas, holiday food baskets are distributed. Local foundations support a portion of the expenses through grants. This provides a turkey and all of the fixings for a festive meal. These holiday baskets are distribution in Owego and Waverly.
Children's Christmas parties are held in both Owego and Waverly each year. Each child receives a gift, candy, a warm hat and pair of mittens. Pizza and other treats are served and Santa pays a visit.
In August a "Back to School Bash" is held in Owego and Waverly. With the help of a grant from a local foundation, backpacks filled with school supplies are presented to each child along with a back-to-school hair cut. Hot dogs, cookies and special treats are provided. Children are provided with games to play and prizes to win.

"Cancer was not cured. World peace was not accomplished, no new stars or planets discovered, but a resource was made available that was not available before- a resource that will help ease anxieties about one of the most necessary of necessities- food"
